Junior Developer

About the Role

BAE Systems, Inc. is hiring a Junior Cyber Developer to join a multi-disciplinary team developing a breadth of solutions across their portfolio. This role is focused on cybersecurity with room for growth, emphasizing secure frameworks for AI, automation of security hardening, and the implementation of frameworks that change the trust narrative around complex data environments. The role involves contributing to the architecture and execution of high-visibility systems and engaging in projects that will expose and challenge across various technical areas.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement Cybersecurity and Identity Control Frameworks (MCP) for Agentic Systems.
• Integrate with MCP Frameworks for Data, Identity, Cost, and Cyber Security Controls.
• Integrate with Full-Stack Software Engineering Teams and Software Frameworks.
• Implement Cyber Hardening of Enterprise-Grade Cloud Infrastructure and Data Pipelines.
• Perform Multi-Platform Enterprise Integration (ServiceNow, Salesforce, Splunk, Custom Ecosystems).
• Implement security into architectures, development lifecycle, and operational systems, ensuring seamless cybersecurity controls integration while maintaining high-performance UI frameworks & backend services.
• Leverage cloud security infrastructure through inheritance and security integration.
• Partner closely with PIs, strategic planners, and executive stakeholders to conceptualize, scope, and execute strategic technical pathways.
• Champion Cybersecurity within Agentic Frameworks in the design and the DevSecOps CI/CD developer workflow.
• Develop automated security testing, security orchestration, security workflows, and implement new automated detection, control, and remediation systems.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Cyber Security Foundation: Hold cyber certifications and understand core principles of cybersecurity in a modern AI-centric connected cloud environment. Demonstrated innovation and leadership in cybersecurity.
• Cyber Engineering: Ready-now skills in implementing cybersecurity within development and deployment environments.
• Software Engineering Principles: Demonstrated expertise in multiple languages (such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Rust, Java, or C++), microservices architecture, cloud to embedded and distributed systems design.
• Proven Architecture Experience: Extensive hands-on background integrating complex software components, cloud services, databases, and third-party APIs or Large & Small Language Model workflows.
• DevSecOps & Infrastructure Leadership: Comprehensive understanding of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible), and enterprise-grade CI/CD pipelines. Design for accreditation and deployment is key.
• Collaborative Leadership: Demonstrated success in technical teams, partnering with research or product stakeholders, and elevating capabilities of surrounding engineers.
• Track Record: History of success in teams, delivery of viable systems from start to finish, adapting to changing tools and frameworks.
• AI-First Technologist: Operates at the frontier of AI-assisted engineering and agentic workflows, utilizing LLMs and modern automation frameworks.
• Adaptable Visionary: Capable of taking a high-level strategic objective and breaking it down into an actionable, highly scalable engineering roadmap.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, related field or equivalent high-impact practical experience.
• Professional cybersecurity experience, with a proven track record of securing complex systems and development of automation.
• Experience executing rapid-cycle R&D & AI frameworks.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. TS/SCI Preferred.
• Fluency in at least two of the following: Software Engineering, AI Harness Engineering, Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, Hardware/Firmware/Embedded Systems.

Working Conditions

• Onsite in McLean, VA. Flexible work and time options.
• Occasional travel to other BAE Systems sites, partner facilities, and stakeholder meetings.
• Reports to: Sr. Director, Capability Development.
