LAUNDRY WORKER, ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES

About the Role

Join Bergen New Bridge Medical Center as a full-time Laundry Worker. This role involves providing high-quality, compassionate care within a supportive and inclusive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Collects and sorts clean and soiled laundry.
• Inspects linen, removing stained, torn, or worn pieces for reprocessing or repairs.
• Moves clean linen, damp or dry, within the Laundry area using carts, tables, or trucks.
• Assists in loading, hanging, and sorting wash linen uniforms into the Steam Tunnel machine.
• Loads and unloads washers when necessary.
• Operates one or more automatic machines as part of daily duties.
• Makes up linen quotas for exchange carts.
• Delivers linen to various units and clinics.
• Starts and stops machines using buttons on signals or lights.
• Sorts, folds, and stacks processed linen on shelves.
• Maintains simple tally records of quantities or types of laundry processed, used, or issued.
• Feeds spreader and flatwork ironers, and receives work from the crossfolder.
• Sweeps and mops the laundry area and chute rooms.
• Removes clean/soiled linen from units throughout the Medical Center as needed.
• Demonstrates customer service qualities: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness.
• Provides timely, professional, caring, and respectful responses.
• Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
• May assist in making up linen quotas.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Familiarity with automatic washing machines.
• Good oral communication skills.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English to the extent required by the position.
• Basic arithmetic skills test required.

Qualifications

• High School graduation or equivalent preferred.
• 6 months - 1 year of laundry experience preferred.

Job Setting/Physical Demands

• Laundry environment: hot, humid.
• Pushes/pulls or moves/lifts heavy supplies or equipment.
• Frequent prolonged walking/standing.
• Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.
