Entry Level Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Kleinfelder's Geotechnical team is seeking an entry-level Geotechnical Engineer for its North Carolina operations (Raleigh or Charlotte). This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects within the energy, commercial, transportation infrastructure, and construction sectors.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist Project Engineers/Managers with field assignments, including boring layout, utility clearance, coordination with drilling contractors, supervision of drill rig and geotechnical field investigations, and logging of borings and test pits.
• Conduct inspection and construction oversight for grading, earthwork, retaining structures, trenchless installation, and foundation installation.
• Assist with lab testing assignments and compile laboratory and field-testing results.
• Perform geotechnical engineering analyses under supervision, including soil/rock classification, slope stability analysis, earth retention systems, shallow and deep foundation design, settlement analysis, ground improvement, trenchless drill design, and geologic hazard evaluation.
• Assist Project Engineers/Managers in preparing geotechnical reports.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• 0 - 3 years of geotechnical engineering experience
• Positive work attitude and ability to work safely and efficiently when managing multiple tasks.
• Ability to work independently or with a team in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Desire to work onsite during geotechnical and construction phases of projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with peers, supervisors, clients, and subcontractors.
• MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - intermediate knowledge preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
• MS in Geotechnical Engineering - strongly desired.
• EIT - preferred.
