Frontend Engineering Intern
Flocci
About the Role
Frontend Engineering Intern at Flocci Workspaces, a two-month remote on-job training position.
The Role
A two-month remote on-job training position on the frontend of Flocci Workspaces, a drag-resize dashboard with real-time updating widgets.
How the Two Months Run
- Phase 1 (Weeks 1–3): Application Testing
- Test the interface, dashboard, and widgets based on requirement notes.
- Focus on grid, widgets, real-time updates, and responsive behavior.
- File findings with evidence (screenshot, viewport size, browser, recording).
- What you produce:
- A state audit of every widget (loading, empty, error) with evidence and a verdict.
- A responsive and touch report across specified viewports.
- Reproducible defect reports on layout persistence and real-time reconciliation.
- A written list of dashboard non-functional requirements and measured metrics.
- Phase 2 (Week 4): The Gate
- Explain a widget drag process to an engineer, covering pointer events, local state changes, persistence requests, socket events, and error handling.
- Classify defects as functional or non-functional and defend each classification.
- What you produce:
- An end-to-end account of a drag, including optimistic update and rollback.
- Classified defects against functional and non-functional requirements.
- A prediction of what degrades first on a busy board, with reasoning.
- The track decision for month two, communicated directly with reasons.
- Phase 3 (Weeks 5–8): Build
- On the codebase track: Take real frontend issues in small, reviewed pull requests, working within the existing token system and component primitives. Ensure changes hold in light/dark mode, on phone/desktop, and with throttled network.
- On the testing track: Own the interface test plan and run it before every release.
- What you produce:
- Merged, reviewed frontend commits in conventional-commit form, using existing design tokens.
- Or an owned interface test plan covering states, responsiveness, and accessibility, run at every release.
- At least one widget state designed and built that previously lied to the user.
- A written closing review of your two months.
Key Responsibilities
- Test the dashboard grid: resize browser mid-drag, zoom, reload, open a second tab on the same account, and confirm layout persistence and reconciliation.
- Audit every widget for loading, empty, and error states.
- Test real-time reconciliation: observe changes in another tab, make conflicting changes, and record screen decisions.
- Test touch and keyboard interaction, not just mouse.
- Profile a heavy board in DevTools and report performance bottlenecks.
- Build and fix real interface work in reviewed pull requests: widget states, accessible drag handles, layout bugs on narrow screens, using existing design tokens.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of an engineering degree
- Commitment to two continuous months, full-time, remote.
- Ability to build a small React component and explain re-renders.
- Working HTML and CSS knowledge (flexbox, grid).
- Proficiency with Browser DevTools (inspect element, read console, view network requests).
- Git basics (clone, branch, commit, push, open a pull request).
- Willingness to spend the first three weeks testing the interface.
- Nice to have:
- Experience with Tailwind CSS or any utility CSS.
- Implemented drag-and-drop.
- Experience with Performance or Lighthouse tab in DevTools.
- Exposure to accessibility (screen readers, keyboard navigation, contrast checking).
- Ability to articulate opinions about UIs with more than aesthetic reasoning.
Tech Stack
- React 18 + TypeScript (Vite)
- Tailwind CSS with shadcn/ui primitives and CSS-variable design tokens
- Drag-and-resize dashboard grid with persisted layout
- Realtime WebSocket client for live widget updates and optimistic-state reconciliation
- react-hook-form with zod resolvers
- Chrome DevTools performance profiling and device emulation
- Git with conventional commits
What you get
- Certificate of completion
- Merit bonus (for exceptional work)
Eligibility
- Enrolled in a full-time engineering program at an Indian institution (B.E./B.Tech/M.Tech or equivalent diploma).
- Available for two continuous months, approximately 40 hours a week.
- Remote from anywhere in India with a stable internet connection.
- Own laptop and access to a phone for testing.
