Intern, R&D Undergraduate Summer, TITANS

About the Role

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking R&D Undergraduate Interns to join the TITANS: Math & Analytics team for Summer 2027. This internship is part of the Technical Internships To Advance National Security (TITANS) program, focusing on Cybersecurity, Software, and Math and Analytics. The program aims to develop the next generation of experts in math and analytics for national security applications.

Sandia's Technical Internships To Advance National Security (TITANS) intern institutes seek outstanding undergraduate students to work on vibrant, motivated teams. Interns engage in R&D assignments focusing on applying computer science, computer engineering, or cybersecurity skills to solve complex challenges.

Project Types May Include

• Computational imaging and processing
• Natural language processing
• Multidimensional data modeling
• Statistical functional data analysis

Key Responsibilities

• Applied research and development in one or more of Sandia's mission areas.

Requirements & Tech Stack

The internship utilizes skills in:

• Math
• Analytics
• Data science
• Machine learning
• Artificial intelligence
• Computer science (strong skills required)
• Proficiency in at least one programming language

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited undergraduate program.
• Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
• Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer.
• U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S.

Desired Qualifications

• GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
• Working knowledge and understanding of an engineering or science-related field, such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other relevant SEM disciplines.
• R&D experience including project work, technical presentations and/or publications.

Security Clearance

• This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
• Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review.
• Employees in New Mexico need to pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to Kirtland Air Force Base.
• Citizens and agents of the People's Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea, and the Russian Federation are generally prohibited from accessing Sandia National Laboratories, unless they are also a citizen of the United States.
• Uncleared Personal Identity Verification (UPIV) process may be required for individuals requiring uncleared access for greater than 179 days.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

• If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs. Additional steps may be necessary prior to an on-site interview.
