About the Role
Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company focused on building the Waymo Driver. This role is within the Predictive Planning (PrePlan) team, which develops and deploys machine learning solutions for predicting future states and planning vehicle behavior. The team's mission is to transform driving data into deep neural networks that enable safe and efficient navigation. This is a hybrid onsite internship position.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, implement, and evaluate state-of-the-art generative models for autonomous vehicle planning.
- Develop next-generation, ML-powered systems that enhance ML driver capabilities and accelerate business scaling.
- Translate real-world driving challenges into well-defined machine learning problems, applying cutting-edge techniques including foundation models and reinforcement learning.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Currently pursuing an MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related technical field.
- Hands-on experience with modern deep learning libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, JAX, PyTorch).
- Proficient programming skills (e.g., Python, C/C++).
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Publications in top-tier conferences such as ICML, NeurIPS, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICLR, IROS, CoRL, ACL, or EMNLP.
- Hands-on experience deploying, evaluating, and maintaining ML-based systems in real-world, production environments.

Compensation
- Hourly Masters Pay: $70 USD
- Hourly PhD Pay: $85 USD
