Intern, Commercial Bank

About the Role

• 12-week paid summer internship program
• Opportunity to support the Commercial Administration team through day-to-day responsibilities, projects, and initiatives.
• Contribute to First Merchants Bank’s Commercial Line of Business, supporting strategic initiatives in credit lending analysis, loan onboarding, business analytics, compliance, and sales enablement.
• Gain exposure to core commercial banking operations while delivering meaningful project outcomes aligned with the bank’s 2027 objectives.

Key Responsibilities & Learning Objectives

• Training, job shadowing, interviews, and one-on-one meetings with leaders across credit, commercial lending, loan administration, business analytics, compliance, and sales enablement.
• Participate in a three-week Credit Training Program covering:
• Financial statement analysis
• Credit analytics
• Regional loan committee processes
• Accounting knowledge
• Credit spread practices
• Gain risk & compliance exposure through committee observations and policy reviews.
• Experience commercial loan onboarding through shadowing with Commercial Client Support and Commercial Loan Operations.
• Receive an overview of Commercial business segments: Community, Middle Market, Upper Middle Market, Investment Real Estate, Sponsor Finance, Asset Backed Lending, and Treasury Management.
• Participate in a coordinated community service project.
• Network with Executive and Senior Leadership at the Intern Meet & Greet event.
• Present a summary of accomplishments and key learnings at the conclusion of the internship program.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Be a full-time Bachelor (or higher) degree-seeking student at an accredited college or university.
• Be available to work 40 hours per week from May 17th - August 6th, 2027.
• Be authorized to work in the United States.
• Demonstrated interest in the financial services industry and/or specific area of interest.
• Possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Be able and willing to travel periodically throughout the First Merchants footprint, if applicable.
