Back End Developer
avihs.ai
About the Role
Engineer backend services, data models, and integrations with explicit reliability, security, and operational controls. Develop services behind business applications and data-driven workflows. Connect application behavior, transactional data, and external systems without losing track of permissions or failure conditions. This role covers new functionality and improvements to existing services across AVIHS products and client engagements, requiring clear service contracts, practical debugging, and reliably tested and operated changes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement APIs, business rules, and integrations with clear request, response, and error contracts.
- Model relational data and workflow state, including schema changes, transactions, and checks that preserve data integrity.
- Implement authentication, authorization, and input validation at service boundaries, with appropriate handling of sensitive information.
- Develop background processing and external-service integrations with bounded retries, idempotency, and useful operational diagnostics.
- Investigate slow queries, concurrency issues, and production failures; add unit and integration tests for uncovered cases.
- Integrate AI capabilities where the brief requires them, with evaluation criteria, fallback behavior, and explicit human-review points.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Professional backend development experience in at least one server-side language and framework.
- Working knowledge of SQL, relational modeling, transactions, and API design.
- Experience with authentication, authorization, automated testing, and production debugging.
- Ability to reason about concurrency, duplicate requests, service failures, and secure data handling.
Preferred Experience
- Asynchronous job processing, queues, or event-driven integrations with recovery from partial failures.
- Query optimization, service profiling, and monitoring that helps diagnose problems in production.
- CI/CD, database migration practices, and automated contract or integration testing.
How You Will Work
- Agree service boundaries and acceptance criteria with frontend, product, and delivery colleagues.
- Make dependencies, security assumptions, and operational risks visible during design and review.
- Take changes from implementation through testing and release preparation.
- Leave enough diagnostics and documentation for another engineer to investigate failures without relying on undocumented knowledge.
Application Instructions
- Attach your updated CV.
- An optional project summary can explain an API, integration, or data-processing service you built, including your decisions about reliability, testing, and access control.
