About the Role

PortfolioFuture is an independent fund discovery and intelligence company. As a Financial Planning Analyst, you will study how financial advisors and wealth managers evaluate the funds PortfolioFuture identifies. The role covers advisor research, portfolio workflows, fund consideration, and the development of market intelligence used across PortfolioFuture. You will speak with advisors, RIAs, and wealth-management professionals to understand what makes a fund worth investigating, what keeps it out of a portfolio, and how those judgments differ across firms and client types.

Key Responsibilities

  • Speak with financial advisors, RIAs, and wealth-management professionals about funds identified through PortfolioFuture’s research.
  • Study how advisors compare competing ETFs and mutual funds and what makes a fund worth further consideration.
  • Document recurring questions, objections, and concerns around specific funds and investment strategies.
  • Research how advisors judge a fund’s strategy, positioning, fees, track record, and role in a portfolio.
  • Compare how different advisors evaluate the same investment product.
  • Turn qualitative conversations into structured market intelligence the rest of PortfolioFuture can act on.
  • Identify gaps between how a fund manager describes a strategy and how the wealth-management market understands it.
  • Study how a fund enters an advisor’s consideration set and what moves it from awareness to real due diligence.
  • Work with PortfolioFuture’s substitution and decomposition research so advisor conversations stay grounded in evidence.
  • Use large language models and other tools to organize, summarize, and analyze qualitative research at scale.
  • Share learned insights with research, product, and distribution teams.
  • Test whether observed patterns hold across firm size, client type, and market environment.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Background in finance, economics, business, wealth management, communications, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in financial advisors, RIAs, wealth management, ETFs, and mutual funds.
  • Ability to conduct thoughtful professional conversations and ask useful follow-up questions.
  • Ability to understand an investment product well enough to discuss it with experienced advisors.
  • Strong listening skills and ability to identify patterns across many conversations.
  • Ability to turn qualitative feedback into clear, structured written findings.
  • Comfort reaching out to and speaking with experienced wealth-management professionals.
  • Ability to communicate learned information clearly, including uncertainties.

Experience in wealth management, financial advisory, investment product distribution, or practice management is useful but not required.

Experience with research interviews, qualitative analysis, CRM data, or survey design is a plus.
