About the Role
We are actively seeking an enthusiastic and empathetic Product Accessibility Engineer to ensure all our applications are universally accessible. This role immerses you in the complete product development lifecycle, from design to deployment, providing invaluable experience in digital accessibility. You will collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to identify accessibility barriers, propose solutions, and implement best practices adhering to global accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG). This is an exceptional opportunity for students with foundational knowledge in front-end development, human factors engineering, or interaction design to apply academic learning in a meaningful way. We seek individuals with strong empathy, a proactive problem-solving approach, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive user experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Phase: Collaborate with design teams to review mockups and prototypes, ensuring they meet accessibility standards. This includes checking for proper color contrast, clear descriptions, and logical heading structures.
- Development Phase: Work with development teams to ensure code is written with accessibility in mind, focusing on proper use of HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
- Testing Phase: Assist in testing applications for accessibility using automated tools, manual checks, and assistive technologies like screen readers to identify and report issues.
- AI Development (Bonus): Contribute to projects involving AI-powered accessibility features if you have experience in AI.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Front-End Development: A solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Empathy: A genuine desire to understand and advocate for the needs of users with disabilities.
- Design Skills: An eye for good design and an understanding of user experience principles.
- Modern Tooling Acumen: Direct experience using and critically reviewing code and artifacts generated by large language model (LLM) coding assistants and agentic tools (e.g., Gemini, Cursor, agent-based frameworks). Must be able to effectively guide AI tools to achieve desired outcomes.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Front-End Development, Human Factors Engineering, or Interaction Design.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- A passion for creating inclusive and accessible technology.
- Bonus Skills: Experience or interest in AI development.
