About the Role

Nexstar Media Group, Inc. is offering an unpaid internship at WIAT-TV in Birmingham, Alabama, for students seeking hands-on experience in television station operations. Internships are available for fall, spring, and summer semesters and are intended to supplement academic curriculum.

Internship Areas Include

• Sales / Marketing (Account Executive, Sales Administration, Digital Sales)
• Human Resource
• News (Producer, Reporter, Photographer, Editor)
• Digital Media (Writing for web and social media)
• Meteorology
• Sports (Producer, Photographer, Reporter)
• Production (Newscast Director, Audio/Camera operator)
• Promotions / Graphics (Commercial Producer, Video Editing)

Internship Details

• Internships are for college credit only.
• Schedules will be based on college or university requirements.
• Interns will be well-supervised and participate in a meaningful learning experience.
• Semester start dates: September (fall), January (spring), May (summer).
• Duration: 12-15 weeks.
• Unpaid internship.
• Intern is responsible for their own transportation.

Requirements & Skill

• Entering juniors and seniors studying broadcast journalism, video production, marketing, human resource, or other communication degrees.
• Internships must be for school credit.
• Provide a cover letter that includes:
• The type of internship/position/department you seek.
• The semester you’re applying for.
• What job you are hoping to be hired for after graduation.
• Why you are interested in WIAT-TV / Alabama's 42.
• Why you should be chosen as an intern.
• Provide a letter from Professor/Advisor certifying intern is a junior or senior and will receive academic credit. Email letter to [email protected].
• A collaborative worker with a willingness to learn.
• Abide by all safety rules and procedures of the company.
• Willing to work mornings, evenings and/or weekends. Schedules will be respectful of your college course schedule.
