Preferred Couchbase Administration Skills
- Install, configure, administer, patch, upgrade, and maintain multi-node Couchbase clusters across development, test, staging, and production environments.
- Manage Couchbase Data, Query, Index, Search, Analytics, and Eventing services based on workload requirements.
- Administer buckets, scopes, collections, nodes, service quotas, replicas, compaction settings, and cluster rebalance activities.
- Plan and execute node addition, removal, failover, recovery, cluster expansion, and capacity changes with minimal service disruption.
- Support Couchbase Server on Linux and, where applicable, Couchbase Capella or Couchbase deployments on cloud and Kubernetes platforms.
Performance, Query, and Indexing
- Monitor cluster health, node utilization, disk and memory consumption, latency, throughput, rebalance status, replication queues, and service-specific metrics.
- Tune memory quotas, vBuckets, indexes, compaction, query services, and workload placement for performance and stability.
- Create, review, and optimize SQL++ queries, execution plans, Global Secondary Indexes, and index partitioning strategies.
- Troubleshoot slow queries, indexing failures, hot nodes, skew, timeouts, out-of-memory conditions, and application connectivity issues.
- Perform capacity planning, growth forecasting, workload analysis, and performance benchmarking for high-volume environments.
High Availability, Backup, and Disaster Recovery
- Design and maintain high-availability configurations using replicas, failover, rebalance, and resilient cluster topology.
- Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Cross Data Center Replication for disaster recovery and geographically distributed workloads.
- Plan and execute full and incremental backups, restores, retention policies, archive management, and periodic recovery validation.
- Develop and test disaster recovery procedures, including failover and failback runbooks, recovery objectives, and operational readiness.
- Participate in business continuity exercises and resolve replication lag, conflicts, connectivity, and recovery-related issues.
Security and Compliance
- Implement role-based access control, least-privilege administration, service accounts, password policies, and periodic access reviews.
- Manage TLS certificates and encryption in transit and at rest in accordance with enterprise security standards.
- Configure auditing, logging, network controls, and secure connectivity between applications, clusters, and administrative tools.
- Support vulnerability remediation, security hardening, compliance evidence, patch governance, and audit requests.
Automation, Monitoring, and Operations
- Automate routine administration, health checks, deployments, backup validation, and reporting using Shell, Python, REST APIs, or similar technologies.
- Use Couchbase command-line utilities and management APIs for cluster operations, diagnostics, backup, and recovery.
- Integrate metrics and alerts with enterprise monitoring platforms; experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or comparable tools is preferred.
- Support Infrastructure as Code and DevOps practices using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, or Couchbase Autonomous Operator.
- Perform incident, problem, change, release, service-request, and root-cause-analysis activities in line with ITIL processes.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with application, cloud, DevOps, network, storage, security, and architecture teams to support reliable production services.
- Advise development teams on document design, bucket, scope, and collection architecture, indexing, connection management, and efficient query patterns.
- Lead technical troubleshooting during critical incidents and communicate impact, recovery actions, risks, and preventive measures to stakeholders.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures, runbooks, architecture documents, operational checklists, known-error records, and knowledge articles.
- Provide technical guidance, peer reviews, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to operations team members.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Couchbase Capella, cloud migration, hybrid-cloud deployment, or platform modernization.
- Knowledge of Couchbase Mobile, Sync Gateway, full-text search, Analytics, Eventing, or data integration patterns.
- Experience migrating from relational or other NoSQL platforms to Couchbase.
- Familiarity with Java or other Couchbase SDKs, CI/CD pipelines, and observability practices.
- Couchbase or relevant cloud and database certifications.
The role may require working in a 24x7 support model, including rotational shifts, scheduled maintenance, and on-call support for mission-critical production environments.
The successful candidate should be comfortable coordinating with global teams and managing high-severity incidents under defined service-level commitments.
