About the Role
We build low-latency, multi-tenant systems that admit user sessions, allocate compute capacity, and deliver interactive realtime media at scale. As an SDE-1, you will help design, implement, and operate backend services that sit on the critical path of session lifecycle — from authenticated API entry through resource assignment, queueing under load, and clean teardown — with a strong focus on correctness, observability, and production reliability.
What you will work on
- Build and evolve REST APIs for session creation, status, credential refresh, and teardown.
- Implement admission controls: rate limits, concurrency caps, and waiting queues when capacity is scarce.
- Contribute to worker-pool orchestration: registration, health-gated admission, reservation, assignment, and fail-closed release.
- Work on realtime edge paths — WebSocket and/or RTC transports, timeouts, and client-facing connection flows.
- Debug distributed failure modes: timeouts, races, idempotent webhooks, and multi-service state consistency.
- Improve tests, logging, and documentation so production behavior stays understandable.
Technology stack
- Languages: Python
Responsibilities
- Ship well-scoped backend features with clear API contracts and error handling.
- Write correct async code against databases and Redis (transactions, locks, retries, idempotency).
- Investigate production issues using logs, metrics, and service contracts; propose durable fixes.
- Add automated tests for concurrency and failure edge cases.
- Participate in code review, CI, and safe Kubernetes rollouts.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design basics.
- Proficiency in Python; comfort with async programming or clear ability to ramp quickly.
- Working knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP semantics, and JSON APIs.
- Solid SQL fundamentals; exposure to relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred).
- Understanding of concurrency: race conditions, locks, timeouts, retries, idempotency.
- Ability to read existing codebases, write clean PRs, and communicate trade-offs.
Nice to have
- Experience with FastAPI or similar Python web frameworks.
- Redis (queues, locks, caching) or other coordination primitives.
- WebSockets or realtime / media systems.
- Docker / Kubernetes; cloud exposure (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Auth patterns such as JWT and signed webhooks.
- Interest in observability: structured logs, tracing, latency and error SLIs.
