The ideal candidate is a quick learner, problem solver, and team player who enjoys working with data, understanding how systems work, and improving software and data quality through automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn and contribute to quality and automated testing across Copart's data products, data contracts, data pipelines, reporting, and analytics solutions.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent technical education.
  • Basic to intermediate Java programming skills with a good understanding of programming fundamentals and object-oriented concepts.
  • Good understanding of SQL and relational databases.
  • Strong interest in data quality, software testing, and test automation.
  • Ability to understand business or technical requirements and translate them into basic test scenarios and validation checks.
  • Basic understanding of Git/source control and software development practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in investigating data or application issues.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with data engineers, developers, QA engineers, analysts, and product teams.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Academic, internship, or project experience with SQL and data validation.
  • Exposure to data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, or data warehouses.
  • Familiarity with data quality concepts, data profiling, reconciliation, or validation.
  • Exposure to data contracts, schemas, APIs, or source-to-target validation.
  • Experience with Playwright, Selenium, or another test automation framework.
  • Basic experience with REST API testing.
  • Familiarity with Git and CI/CD concepts.
  • Exposure to tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
  • Experience with Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript is a plus.
  • Exposure to reporting or analytics tools is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure is a plus.

What You’ll Learn

As part of the Data & Analytics Test Automation Team, the intern will gain hands-on experience with:

  • Data quality and validation across the data lifecycle
  • Testing and validating data contracts, schemas, and interfaces
  • Automated testing of data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows
  • Source-to-target and reconciliation testing
  • SQL-based data validation
  • Testing APIs and data services
  • Quality validation for reporting and analytics products
  • UI and functional test automation using frameworks such as Playwright
  • Integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
  • Investigating data discrepancies, test failures, and defects
  • Understanding how data moves from source systems → data pipelines → data warehouse → reporting → analytics products
  • Working collaboratively with data engineers, developers, QA engineers, analysts, and product teams.

What We’re Looking For

We are primarily looking for someone with strong programming and analytical fundamentals, basic SQL knowledge, curiosity about data, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn. Academic coursework, personal projects, internships, coding bootcamps, or university projects involving Java, SQL, databases, data, or software development are all valuable.
