Microfocus COBOL migration

About the Role

• Lead and execute platform migration activities from HP-UX/Itanium environments to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

Key Responsibilities

• Application compatibility assessment, migration planning, and implementation.
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve migration-related issues involving operating system dependencies, system libraries, shell scripts, batch jobs, and application integrations.
• Work extensively with Micro Focus COBOL applications, Perl, and Shell scripting to ensure application compatibility and seamless execution in the target RHEL environment.
• Perform HP-UX emulation and migration activities, identifying platform-specific dependencies and implementing appropriate solutions to ensure minimal application disruption.
• Support production migration, cutover, post-migration validation, and issue resolution to ensure a smooth transition with minimal downtime.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with HP-UX and Itanium environments, including system-level dependencies and platform-specific configurations.
• Proven experience in Micro Focus COBOL, Perl, and Shell scripting, with the ability to analyze and modify existing application scripts.
• Practical experience executing HP-UX to RHEL migration or emulation projects, rather than only COBOL development or maintenance.
• Strong understanding of OS dependencies, libraries, batch processing, integrations, and troubleshooting in legacy application environments.
• Prior experience handling end-to-end production migration, cutover, deployment, and post-migration support will be highly preferred.
