Civil Engineer, Land Development

About the Role

Timmons Group is seeking Civil Project Engineers at various levels to join their Land Development groups in Richmond, VA. Opportunities exist in Residential, Commercial, and Public Land Development. Projects include multi-family, mixed-use developments, apartment communities, industrial projects, residential neighborhoods, and public land development (schools, jails, fire stations, parks). The role involves assisting clients with zoning entitlements, civil site plan approvals, and construction administration support. Project Engineers will work in teams of 2-3 design engineers and a project manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Design project portions using relevant office software, modeling, and Civil 3D technology.
• Complete calculations using engineering formulas and skills, or utilize computers for problem-solving.
• Prepare specifications materials through research and equipment catalogs.
• Complete design details and plan sets.
• Perform research and write objective summary reports.
• Assist in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates.
• Complete field observation, inspection, and data collection duties.
• Communicate with client staff and internal design teams.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Bachelor or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• EIT required.
• Experience with preparation of civil engineering site plans including site layout, utilities, grading & drainage, erosion control, and stormwater management is a plus.
• AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship, now and in the future.

Qualifications

• Ideal candidates would have between 2-8 years of professional experience in Land Development civil engineering; entry-level candidates will be considered.
• High energy, creative, flexible, patient, self-starters willing to work at a dynamic pace.
