Network Engineer
Consultixs
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Network Engineer to design, build, and maintain the low-latency network infrastructure connecting our trading systems to exchange colocation environments (including NSE colocation). This role operates at the intersection of exchange connectivity, network architecture, and production infrastructure reliability, with a strong emphasis on low-latency design, multicast market data delivery, and hands-on ownership of our colocation rack. You will work closely with our trading infrastructure team to ensure our systems have fast, reliable, and resilient connectivity to the exchange.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain network connectivity between our colocation rack and NSE trading systems
- Configure and manage BGP (unicast routing) and PIM-SM (multicast routing) for order entry and market data connectivity
- Troubleshoot and resolve network-related latency and performance issues across production trading infrastructure
- Own physical layer setup and compliance — fiber handoffs, patch cords, switch/transceiver configuration, and NSE audit readiness
- Manage out-of-band hardware management (IPMI/BMC) for remote server administration in the colo environment
- Coordinate with NSE colocation support and remote-hands teams for troubleshooting, circuit migrations, and hardware issues
- Collaborate with the trading/quant dev team on network-level latency optimization (NIC tuning, kernel bypass considerations, etc.)
- Maintain documentation of network topology, configurations, and connectivity architecture for internal reference
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Experience in network engineering, ideally in a trading, fintech, or low-latency environment
- Strong knowledge of routing protocols — BGP (eBGP), and multicast routing (PIM-SM, IGMP)
- Solid understanding of L2/L3 network design and client-server network architectures
- Hands-on experience with Cisco IOS/NX-OS or equivalent network operating systems
- Experience with datacenter/colocation network setups — fiber connectivity, patch panels, SFP/SFP+ transceivers
- Familiarity with IPMI/BMC and out-of-band server management
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix systems administration
- Understanding of exchange connectivity concepts (market data feeds, order entry, redundancy design) — NSE experience strongly preferred
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Direct experience with NSE colocation infrastructure or Indian exchange connectivity
- Experience with multicast market data distribution in a trading environment
- Exposure to time synchronization (NTP/PTP)
- CCNA or higher certification
- Familiarity with low-latency network tuning (kernel bypass, NIC offloading) — DPDK/Solarflare exposure a plus
Candidate Profile
- Strong systems thinker with attention to detail and reliability
- Able to work closely with trading/dev teams and leadership in a small, high-ownership environment
- Calm and methodical under pressure — network issues during market hours require fast, precise troubleshooting
- Willing to be hands-on with physical infrastructure (rack visits, cabling, hardware troubleshooting) when needed
