2027 Software Engineering Summer Intern

About the Role

The Software Engineering Intern will join the Technology team at GCM Grosvenor, a growing alternative investments firm. Interns will work alongside experienced engineers on product-oriented teams, contributing to the development of applications and solutions used across the firm. This role offers hands-on experience with modern engineering practices in a real-world environment. This is a 10-week summer internship based in our Chicago office and follows a hybrid schedule, with in-office attendance required Tuesday through Thursday.

Key Responsibilities

• Join one of our product-oriented software engineering teams for the summer.
• Work closely with team members and leaders on engineering projects.
• Create an approach, design, and execute on project deliverables.
• Participate in all team Agile ceremonies.
• Leverage hands-on experience with technology and practical approaches to solve real-world business problems.
• Create solutions the team will use beyond the internship period.
• Present work and learnings at the culmination of the internship program.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (graduating Dec 2028 – Spring 2029).
• Minimum GPA: 3.5.
• Comfortable with object-oriented programming (C#, Python, C++, or Java).
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Exposure to web development (HTML, JavaScript, APIs, etc.).
• Familiar with Agile development, cloud technologies, and the software development lifecycle.
• Curiosity about AI and a willingness to use AI-enabled tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) to improve productivity.

Standout Qualifications

• Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Redis).
• Experience with modern frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue).
• Familiarity with automated testing tools (e.g., JUnit, Selenium).
