Controlling Specialist (m/f/d)

Role Overview

• Manage end-to-end finance responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Acts as a strategic advisor and financial co-pilot to senior leadership.
• Translates business strategy into financial implications, targets, and value drivers.
• Provide actionable insights and recommendations to drive the future development of your business area within the BASF Group.
• Deliver reliable financial information to support management decision-making and strategic planning.
• Lead and support automation and continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
• Prepare and deliver clear presentations to management.
• Conduct cost analysis, monitoring, reporting, and budgeting for your assigned business area.
• Liaise with the Finance Manager of the company.
• Gain a comprehensive understanding of global accounting and charging mechanisms.
• Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, as well as forecasting and budget planning.
• Continuously improve and automate reporting to ensure transparency in cost development.
• Monitor project cost accounting and ensure accurate tracking.
• Coordinate management inquiries and structure complex ad-hoc analyses.
• Ensure compliance with BASF Group’s accounting and controlling guidelines.
• Conduct training sessions for stakeholders to promote smooth processes and effective knowledge transfer.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Controlling, or Accounting.
• Several years of relevant experience in business or controlling functions is preferred.
• Strong communication skills in English; knowledge of German is an added advantage but not mandatory.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Strong proficiency in controlling IT tools such as MS Office, SAP BW, SAP CO/CI, and PowerBI.
• Strong understanding of business models, value drivers, and financial steering.
• Ability to translate strategy into financial impact.
• Ability to challenge business assumptions and provide fact-based recommendations.
• Strong communication and storytelling skills (management-ready messaging).
• Excellent analytical and numerical skills, with a strong ability to learn and work independently as well as in a team.
• Team player with a high service orientation and a proactive, continuous improvement mindset.
