About the Role
We are actively seeking a highly enthusiastic and deeply empathetic Product Accessibility Engineer to become an integral part of our dynamic team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to our core mission: ensuring all our applications are universally accessible to every individual, irrespective of their abilities or challenges. As a Product Accessibility Engineer, you will be immersed in the complete product development lifecycle, from the initial conceptual design phases through to meticulous testing and final deployment. This hands-on experience will provide invaluable insights and practical skills within the rapidly expanding and critically important field of digital accessibility. You will collaborate closely with various teams, including product managers, designers, and engineers, to identify potential accessibility barriers, propose innovative solutions, and implement best practices that adhere to global accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG).
Key Responsibilities
- Design Phase: Collaborate with our design teams to review mockups and prototypes, ensuring they meet accessibility standards. You’ll check for proper color contrast, clear descriptions, and logical heading structures.
- Development Phase: Work with our development teams to ensure code is written with accessibility in mind, focusing on proper use of HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
- Testing Phase: Assist in testing applications for accessibility. You'll use a combination of automated tools, manual checks, and testing with assistive technologies like screen readers to identify and report issues.
- AI Development (Bonus): If you have experience in AI, you may have the opportunity to contribute to projects involving AI-powered accessibility features.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Front-End Development: A solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Empathy: A genuine desire to understand and advocate for the needs of users with disabilities.
- Design Skills: An eye for good design and an understanding of user experience principles.
- Bonus Skills: Experience or interest in AI development is a plus.
- Modern Tooling Acumen: Direct experience using and critically reviewing code and artifacts generated by large language model (LLM) coding assistants and agentic tools. Must be able to effectively guide AI tools to achieve desired outcomes. Graduates need direct experience using and critically reviewing code and artifacts generated by large language model (LLM) coding assistants and agentic tools. This is a newer requirement; candidates who have actively experimented with and used tools like Gemini, Cursor, or other agent-based frameworks will be stronger candidates.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Front-End Development, Human Factors Engineering, or Interaction Design.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- A passion for creating inclusive and accessible technology.
