Job Description

M Science is looking for an Equity Research Associate to assist in leading a data-driven research approach to covering companies across various sectors/industries. The position will report into one of our Analysts responsible for generating and publishing investment research. The responsibilities for this role include using proprietary data sets to build financial and statistical models, perform data analysis, write reports, update marketing materials, and service client requests. The individual should also be an effective written and verbal communicator. Additionally, the candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a creative thinker who has a strong interest in the intersection of differentiated data, investment research, and financial markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop deep knowledge of assigned companies and industries, including business models, competitive positioning, revenue drivers, key performance indicators, and emerging trends.
  • Gather and synthesize information from proprietary datasets, company materials, SEC and regulatory filings, industry publications, earnings materials, and other relevant sources.
  • Analyze differentiated and proprietary data to identify trends, inflections, risks, and insights relevant to company and industry performance; validate results and investigate anomalies before incorporating findings into research.
  • Build and maintain financial and statistical models used to forecast company KPIs and corporate performance, assess scenarios, and connect operational data to financial expectations.
  • Use approved AI tools and workflows to accelerate data preparation, research synthesis, analysis, quality assurance, and drafting, while independently validating outputs and applying sound research judgment.
  • Write, edit, and contribute to the publication of clear, concise equity research reports that translate complex data and analysis into actionable insights.
  • Support client requests through timely analysis, research summaries, talking points, and presentation materials, with increasing opportunities to participate in client discussions as expertise develops.
  • Evaluate new datasets and analytical approaches for relevance, quality, and potential research value, and collaborate with analysts, data teams, Research Enablement, and Sales to improve research products and workflows.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Working knowledge of at least one analytical language or tool such as Python, SQL, or R.
  • Experience with Tableau or another data-visualization platform is required.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Basic understanding of financial statements, accounting concepts, and financial modeling.
  • Experience working with large or complex datasets and translating analysis into clear, decision-relevant insights.
  • Comfort using AI tools for research, analysis, coding, or drafting, together with the judgment to verify outputs and recognize their limitations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, statistics, computer science, mathematics, engineering, or another analytical or quantitative field; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain analytical findings clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated interest in companies, investing, equity markets, and data-driven research.
  • Intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, strong ownership, and the ability to learn quickly in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
