About the Role
The Level 2 RCDC Operations Engineer will join the RCDC Operations team to strengthen the day-to-day operation, resilience, and continuous improvement of critical technology services. This role provides hands-on operational support, assisting the team in transitioning from reactive support towards greater automation, proactive monitoring, and engineering-led service improvement. The successful candidate will collaborate with Service Management, Engineering, Infrastructure, and application teams to identify operational issues, enhance service reliability, and ensure clear ownership through to resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day operation and health of services within the RCDC Operations remit.
- Monitor service performance, identify emerging issues, and coordinate appropriate technical investigation and remediation.
- Work alongside Site Reliability Engineering and AI Ops capabilities to improve monitoring, alerting, automation, and operational resilience.
- Identify repetitive or manual operational activity and help develop opportunities for automation and self-healing.
- Support incident investigation, troubleshooting, and restoration of service, ensuring technical issues are progressed to the appropriate teams.
- Analyze recurring incidents and operational trends to identify opportunities for permanent fixes rather than repeated workarounds.
- Support appropriate access, operational control, and governance processes.
- Maintain operational documentation, support procedures, runbooks, and knowledge articles.
- Work with Service Management and Engineering teams to ensure clear ownership of operational issues and handoffs.
- Provide operational information and metrics to support service reviews, risk management, and decision-making.
- Support service transition and readiness activities as new or changed technology moves into live operation.
- Contribute to continual service improvement across the RCDC environment.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Experience working in a technology operation, infrastructure operations, SRE, application support, or similar production support environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capability.
- Experience working with monitoring and operational management tooling.
- Good understanding of incident, problem, and change management.
- Ability to analyze technical information and turn it into clear operational actions.
- Comfortable working across infrastructure, applications, and service management teams rather than within a single technology silo.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate technical issues through to resolution.
- An automation mindset, actively looking for opportunities to remove repetitive manual work.
Qualifications
- Desirable:
- Experience of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) or modern IT operations.
- Knowledge of observability, event management, and automated remediation.
- Experience with scripting or automation technologies.
- ITIL/service management experience.
- Experience supporting business critical enterprise environments.
