Research Intern
Atom Computing
About the Role
Atom Computing is building quantum computers using optically trapped neutral atoms to enable unprecedented computational breakthroughs. We are seeking a Research Intern to contribute to the architecture and strategy of error correction on neutral atom quantum computers. You will work with our Quantum Error Correction team on targeted research questions related to fault-tolerant quantum computing using neutral-atom hardware.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to new and ongoing research projects at Atom Computing, particularly those related to quantum error correction and fault tolerance.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Applications of machine learning/AI for quantum computing
- QEC codes and fault-tolerant logic
- Magic state production
- Synthesis and compilation of fault-tolerant algorithms
- Design, simulation, and execution of fault-tolerant protocols
- Willingness to translate concepts into demonstrations running on actual quantum computing hardware.
- Familiarity with Python and Git software version control.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience with quantum error correction theory or experiment.
- Temperamentally suited to work at a fast-growing startup: self-motivated, humble, driven, and collaborative.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse team of experimental physicists, hardware, and software engineers.
Compensation: $50 - $75 per hour, commensurate with education and relevant experience.
This is a temporary summer internship position.
