About the Role

The Microchip FPGA Software Engineering team develops a comprehensive software suite for designing Microchips FPGAs and managing the entire design flow. The Timing, Power, and Modeling group specifically focuses on developing user-friendly software for modeling and evaluating FPGA performance (speed and power consumption). These tools are critical for sign-off, used by a wide range of customers, and internally for exploring new FPGA architectures. The team researches and implements cutting-edge algorithms in areas like numerical optimization, linear programming, graph theory, modeling non-linear electronic components, large data processing, and machine learning.

As a member of this R&D team, you will leverage your computer science foundations to develop next-generation performance evaluation (timing and power) algorithms. Your work will impact thousands of customers and improve the overall solution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain static timing analysis software.
  • Model complex electronic digital components, including high-speed IOs.
  • Develop solutions for supporting very large graph representation.
  • Optimize architecture processing and analysis in terms of run-time and memory footprint.
  • Integrate capabilities into an internal flow to evaluate future FPGA architectures.
  • Participate in R&D exploration of advanced topics such as OCV, SSTA, and IR Drop.
  • Assist with the enforcement of Microchip’s Software Development Processes.
  • Perform design reviews, unit testing, and code reviews.
  • Own and sustain product features and provide customer support.
  • Continuously learn about the latest EDA discoveries and contribute to team discussions.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Bachelors in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • 0-3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Strong knowledge in C++.
  • Deep understanding of algorithms and data structures.
  • Experience with shell scripting languages (Python, Bash, TCL).
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, software-engineering judgment, structured problem-solving, debugging and root-cause analysis, secure and quality-focused development, technical documentation, evidence-based communication, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to work with complex requirements, architectures, code, interfaces, tests, defects, performance, security, and product information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • Experience with source code management systems (Git, Bitbucket, Jira).
  • Exposure to parallel programming techniques, like TBB.
  • Familiarity/knowledge/experience with any of the following: FPGA architectures, AI/ML-driven applications, AI-based code development.

Successful Candidates Are Expected To Demonstrate

  • Employment stability, reliability, and sustained accountability in prior roles.
  • Effective teamwork and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Integrity and accuracy in representing qualifications, experience, and credentials.
