ORCIP (Operating Room Clinical Internship Program)

About the Role

Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and the Director. Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients. Utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making to create a care plan for each patient based on physiological, psychosocial, and cultural diversity. Responsible for supervising and delegating non-professional personnel. Must demonstrate competence in dealing with age-related needs of specific patient populations served. Works under the direction of leadership and a multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health system and facility goals and strategic plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrates ability to assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population.
• Demonstrates nursing unit specific competencies and equipment training.
• Partners with patients and their family to develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of care, treatments, and procedures that contribute to physiological and psychosocial outcomes.
• Incorporates evidence-based standards of practice and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in care coordination.
• Facilitates safe patient transition to the next level of care as part of the plan of care.
• Demonstrates a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput to ensure consistent, competent, and ethical care.
• Focuses on quality outcomes when addressing service needs to ensure evidence-based quality care.
• Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations and modifies education methods to ensure patient/family understanding.
• Assumes responsibility to coordinate and deliver individualized patient education and discharge-specific education to family/caregivers, evaluating for comprehension and documenting.
• Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
• Delegates and prioritizes tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and service excellence.
• Recognizes and responds to emergency situations.
• Evaluates resources and support needed and uses systems to ensure needs are met.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or licensed in a compact state Upon Hire
• CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelors Degree, Nursing (Preferred)
• Associates Degree, Nursing (Preferred)
• Program Graduate, Nursing (Minimum education requirement. Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing accepted in lieu of Nursing Diploma)
• High School Diploma or GED (Required only if Nursing Diploma Graduate)

Work Commitment

• Selected applicants must sign a two (2) year work agreement for a full-time position or a three (3) year work agreement for a part-time position within Riverside Health System.
• Applicants selected for positions within targeted facilities will sign their agreement with the specific facility.
• Pay rate during the internship and terms of hire will be discussed on an individual basis by Talent Acquisition.

Additional Requirements

• Applicants without previous experience in a surgical setting will be required to perform 4 hours of shadowing at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Select applicants will be contacted to schedule appointments and pre-shadowing education requirements.
