About the Role

One Medical is a primary care solution dedicated to making quality care more affordable, accessible, and enjoyable. We are transforming healthcare by improving the experience for patients, providers, employers, and health networks. Our seamless in-office and 24/7 virtual care services, on-site labs, and comprehensive programs have been operational for fifteen years. In February 2023, One Medical joined Amazon, aiming to deliver exceptional healthcare to more consumers and achieve better health outcomes. We are building a diverse, driven, and empathetic team and cultivating an environment where everyone can thrive.

As a Float Phlebotomist/Front Desk (internally known as a Patient Care Specialist) at one of our offices, you will provide an exceptional patient experience and support their care journey through venipuncture and other clinical services. You will act as an ambassador for patients, demonstrating mastery of human connection and a strong drive for service. You will remove barriers to care, ensuring a truly exceptional in-office patient experience. You will be the steward of the space, maintaining the office lobby's look and feel according to the One Medical brand. You are the first point of contact for patients and will provide support as requested by the Practice Coordinator, Operations Manager, or providers. You are a strong team player with innovative problem-solving skills, adept at tackling various tasks and challenges. You combine excellent specimen collection techniques with tactful interpersonal skills in all patient interactions, both at the front desk and in the lab. You possess strong verbal and written communication skills, identifying opportunities and delivering customer-centric solutions with empathy, focus, and compassion. You bring self-awareness to your work, utilizing strengths and developing areas of opportunity. You thrive in cultures that focus on feedback and growth and are nimble in responding to patient and team needs, with an unwavering drive to help and serve others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize C-I-CARE (a framework for great interaction and communication) in all patient interactions, both clinical and administrative, ensuring a fluid and positive in-office experience through patient intake, same-day schedule management, appropriate follow-up scheduling, strong knowledge of billing and insurance, monitoring patient feedback, and assisting with outreach.
  • Provide venipuncture services on a population ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics.
  • Perform and assist with extended scope duties, including non-blood specimen collection, EKGs/ECGs, vitals, ear lavages, vaccines, PPD tests, and swabs.
  • Maintain high standards of in-office care through proper specimen labeling, handling, and processing, inventory upkeep, and tool sterilization.
  • Continue member care beyond the lab room by answering patient messages, following up on lab cases, and assisting providers and the virtual medical team with clerical duties such as biometric screening forms, medical record and consult review, billing inquiries, and DOH reporting.
  • Handle all front-of-house duties, including check-in/check-out, insurance verification, printing/paperwork tasks, prepping tests, and tasking to service level expectations.
  • Contribute to team development through rounding, attending team huddles, participating in team problem-solving, and supporting in-office providers with ad hoc requests.
  • Perform opening and closing duties and daily office upkeep, including maintaining the look and feel of patient and employee-facing spaces, restocking supplies, and organization.
  • Master the technology suite, including but not limited to Slack, G-suite, Zoom, Circulation, RingCentral, and the Electronic Medical Record System, for team interaction and daily work completion.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • At least 6 months of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist outside of a training/externship environment.
  • Strong customer service skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in computer technology, including typing, navigating the internet, and using multiple software systems simultaneously.
  • Experience working on collaborative, diverse, multi-disciplinary teams (additional experience with remote teams is a plus).
  • A proven ability to display confidence and instill trust during the collection process while delivering individualized, human-centered, customer-focused care.
  • A proven track record of persisting through change, consistently stepping up to take action on challenges, and learning quickly and effectively when faced with new situations or tasks.
  • Mastery of technology suite: Slack, G-suite, Zoom, Circulation, RingCentral, and Electronic Medical Record System.

Work Schedule & Location

  • Full-time role (40 hours/week) with 8-hour shifts.
  • Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 6:30 AM - 7:30 PM.
  • Floating between offices in Chevy Chase, Bethesda, North Bethesda, & Silver Spring.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary range: $24.25 to $26.25 per hour, based on a standard full-time schedule.
  • Total compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and work location.
