2027 Summer Intern-Mechanical Engineering

About the Role

Provide support to Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) as a Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWFP) Mechanical Engineering Intern - Limited Service Employee (LSE) on the Savannah River Site (SRS). The selected intern will support the maintenance staff in a complex nuclear facility environment, assist with equipment reliability improvements, maintenance work planning, and design support.

Internship Duration: 10-12 weeks (May 2027 - July 2027)

Work Schedule: 40-hour work week (flexible schedules including 5/8s or 4/10s)

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate ($20.00/Hr.)

Key Responsibilities

• Support maintenance staff in a complex nuclear facility environment.
• Assist with equipment reliability improvements.
• Assist with maintenance work planning.
• Assist with design support.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Interest in hands-on problem solving, manufacturing, or maintenance engineering.
• Familiarity with basic mechanical components (fasteners, bearings, shafts, supports, piping, valves).
• Experience with 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks.
• Ability to follow procedures and work safely in a highly regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited four-year university.
• Currently working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Must have completed their Sophomore year.
• Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5.
• Must pass General Employment Training (GET).
• Must pass Drug and Alcohol Testing (DAT).

Additional Information

• Interns are responsible for their own transportation.
• A valid Driver’s License, Registration and proof of automobile insurance is required for driving on the Savannah River Site.
