Language Editor

About the Role

This is a full-time, on-site Language Editor role based in Chennai.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and refine manuscripts and other content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, consistency, and adherence to style guides.
• Edit and proofread text for academic, professional, and digital publishing projects.
• Ensure language quality and logical flow.
• Collaborate with project managers, authors, and other editorial team members to meet quality and delivery standards.
• Check references, captions, and headings for accuracy.
• Align content with client specifications.
• Provide constructive feedback to improve readability and overall presentation of documents.
• Support continuous improvement of editorial processes.
• Maintain confidentiality and data security in line with company policies.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Strong language editing, copyediting, and proofreading skills.
• Keen eye for detail and consistency.
• Skills in editorial review, quality control, and applying style guides (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago, or journal-specific styles).
• Skills in content evaluation, clarity improvement, and restructuring sentences and paragraphs for better readability and logical flow.
• Basic digital publishing and workflow skills.
• Familiarity with MS Word, PDF tools, XML/HTML formats, and online editorial platforms.
• Communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with project managers, authors, and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• Relevant bachelor’s degree in English, Linguistics, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
• Advanced degrees or specialization in publishing or language studies are an added advantage.
• Prior experience in academic, STM, or professional publishing, or in a BPO/editorial environment, is highly desirable.
