About The Role
We're looking for a technically strong Computer Engineering graduate to join as a Trainee Payment Analyst. You'll work where software engineering meets banking. You'll learn how payment files are generated, transformed, validated, and delivered to banks, and you'll help build the tools that automate this work. After a structured training period, you'll take ownership of customer formats.
What You'll Do
- Payment formats and configuration
- Learn and work with global payment standards:
- ISO 20022: pain.001 (credit transfers), pain.002 (status reports), camt.053/054 (bank statements)
- SEPA, SWIFT MT/MX, and country- and bank-specific formats
- Configure and map payment formats from ERP data (SAP and others) to the format each bank requires.
- Help migrate customers between format versions, for example ISO 20022 V3 to V9, to meet bank and SWIFT deadlines.
- Testing and validation
- Validate XML payment files against XSD schemas and bank specifications.
- Run end-to-end tests in UAT environments, then analyze bank acknowledgements and rejections.
- Write test cases and keep test evidence for customer sign-off.
- Support and troubleshooting
- Investigate customer tickets such as rejected payments, mapping errors, file transfer failures, and status mismatches.
- Read logs, query databases with SQL, and find the root cause, with help from senior analysts.
- Coordinate with banks, customers, and internal development and cloud teams.
- Ways of working
- Work in Agile/Scrum sprints using Jira, and document configurations and decisions in Confluence.
- Collaborate with colleagues in India and Europe.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- BE / B.Tech in Computer Engineering, or an equivalent degree in IT or Computer Science (2025 or 2026 graduates welcome).
- Strong grasp of programming fundamentals in at least one language (JavaScript/Node.js, Java or Python).
- Good working knowledge of SQL (joins, filters, aggregations).
- Understanding of data formats: XML, JSON and CSV.
- Analytical mindset and close attention to detail.
- Clear written and spoken English.
Good to have
- XML Schema (XSD), XPath or XSLT.
- REST APIs and tools such as Postman.
- ETL tools (Pentaho, Talend or similar), or experience transforming data in scripts.
- Git, the Linux command line, SFTP.
- Basic knowledge of banking, payments or finance.
- Internships or academic projects in data integration, automation or fintech.
Soft Skills
- Curiosity and willingness to learn a new domain quickly.
- Ownership, and follow-through on tasks and customer issues.
- Being comfortable asking questions and documenting what you learn.
