Outreach Associate Intern/Volunteer (Unpaid)

About the Role

A Better Way PAC (ABWPAC) supports candidate John Fay and is dedicated to expanding access to free and affordable community mental health resources. ABWPAC is building grassroots momentum around a petition advocating for mental health resources legislation. The Outreach Associate will be the front line of this petition campaign, reaching out to Mental Health Counselors (MHCs), clinics, and community organizations to build awareness and drive petition signatures. This is an opportunity for someone passionate about mental health advocacy, community engagement, or political organizing to make a tangible impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft and send professional outreach emails to licensed mental health counselors, clinics, and relevant organizations.
• Clearly communicate the goals of the petition and the legislation it supports.
• Track outreach efforts and responses using internal systems (Google Drive/Striven).
• Follow established email templates and processes for consistency and compliance.
• Respond to acknowledgments, questions, and declines professionally and promptly.
• Collaborate with the broader outreach and communications team to refine messaging and expand our organizational directory.
• Help identify new MHCs and organizations to add to outreach lists.

Qualifications

• Strong written communication skills — clear, professional, and persuasive.
• Comfortable with email outreach and cold contact at scale.
• Detail-oriented and organized; able to track outreach activity accurately.
• Interest in mental health advocacy, public policy, or political campaigns.
• Self-starter who can work independently while following team guidelines.
• Prior experience in outreach, sales, communications, or nonprofit/campaign work is a plus, but not required.
