About the Role

Engineering at Frame.io is about crafting products that inspire creativity and allow users to do great work. We care deeply about how our products are built, how they look, how they feel, and how they function. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Search squad, a team dedicated to our next-generation, search, and secure workflow capabilities. The squad will participate in cross-team initiatives and own work on search, custom fields, metadata, views, and workflow features.

Your primary responsibilities will be to:

• Empower the squad to excel in their roles.
• Lead the squad in building ambitious, best-in-class applications.
• Contribute to the growth of our engineering team and culture.

You will also directly contribute to codebases through feedback and provide mentorship via pair programming. Each quarter includes a dedicated week for coding, known as Manager Hack Weeks, to foster technical growth. Success is defined by leading the team to craft the best work of their careers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and foster a collaborative team environment for building exceptional products.
• Facilitate a squad of highly effective web and backend engineers, providing coaching, technical mentorship, unblocking support, and recognition.
• Advocate for engineering excellence and contribute to application architecture and high-level structure.
• Develop action plans to align workstreams across squads, ensuring squad needs are met and eliminating communication gaps.
• Partner with engineers, product, design, user insights, and QA to shape and lead the squad’s engineering work.
• Provide technical leadership and be accountable for the team's technical decisions.
• Grow, educate, and retain a successful team with a high delivery cadence in an agile environment.
• Co-own the squad's strategy with product and design partners.
• Drive culture and process improvements across the engineering organization.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• A passion for full-stack engineering, technical leadership, people management, product design, and using exceptional products.
• Experience planning, implementing, and delivering projects involving multiple engineers and squads.
• A strong desire to foster an enriching, inclusive, and safe working environment.
• Experience working across a full web application stack.
• Experience leading people, including providing formal and informal feedback.
• Passion for collaborating with design from concept to production.
• Track record of delivering beautiful and performant software, with a strong sense of clean animations and flexible layouts.
• Proficient in developing secure, hardened code.
• Eagerness to innovate on performance through load optimizations, pre-fetching, and animation.
