PCB Designer Intern
Sodium LLP
About the Role
Expanding our hardware development team and looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented PCB Design Intern ready to gain practical, hands-on experience building custom embedded hardware.
What You’ll Work On
- Schematic Capture & Board Layout: Design multi-layer PCBs using EDA tools (KiCad, Altium Designer, or EasyEDA), following industry best practices for signal integrity, power distribution, and thermal management.
- Component Selection & BOM Management: Research, select, and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) based on availability, lifecycle, cost, and component lead times.
- Prototyping & Soldering: Assemble prototype boards, perform SMD soldering (down to 0603/0402 footprints), and carry out bench testing.
- Hardware Bring-up & Debugging: Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and digital multimeters to test, validate, and troubleshoot new board revisions.
- DFM/DFA Readiness: Generate and review Gerber files, drill files, centroid data, and assembly drawings for manufacturing partners.
Qualifications
- Background in Electronics & Communication (ECE), Electrical Engineering (EE), Instrumentation, or a related technical discipline.
- Proven hands-on experience designing 2-layer and 4-layer PCBs using KiCad or Altium Designer.
- Solid understanding of digital/analog circuit fundamentals, power delivery circuits (LDOs, buck/boost converters), and standard communication interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, USB, Ethernet).
- Practical experience in hardware debugging and using lab equipment (DMM, DSO, bench power supplies).
- Familiarity with microcontrollers/SoCs and single-board computer integration (e.g., STM32, ESP32, or compute modules) is a strong plus.
- A curious mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and a genuine eagerness to build physical products.
- Recent graduates or students in their pre-final/final year are welcome.
