About the Role

BAOIAM is looking for a motivated Backend Developer Intern to learn and contribute to the server-side systems that support its digital learning and career-development platform. The intern will work on guided development tasks, testing, debugging, and documentation under the direction of the technology team.

BAOIAM Backend – Product Areas You May Work On

The intern may receive practical exposure to the following backend modules and workflows:

• Authentication and User Management: Registration, login, user profiles, role-based access, and secure session/token workflows.
• Programs and Course Catalogue: Program/course information, categories, batches, and related content data.
• Student Journeys: Enquiries or registrations, enrolments, learner records, and relevant status workflows.
• Payments and Transactions: Payment initiation, gateway response handling, webhook concepts, and transaction records.
• LMS Integration: Backend support for learning access, course progress, quizzes, assignments, and certificates.
• Administrative Workflows: APIs and data operations for authorized internal and administrative functions.
• Cross-Platform API Services: Reusable backend endpoints for the website, Android application, and future connected learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in building, updating, and maintaining REST APIs using Python, Django, and Django REST Framework (DRF).
• Understand existing backend code, application structure, API conventions, and database relationships.
• Implement assigned backend features, serializers, views, models, URL routes, and validations under technical guidance.
• Work with PostgreSQL to perform CRUD operations, understand relational data models, and assist with schema changes and query optimization.
• Learn and apply authentication, permissions, and role-based access control; gain exposure to JWT-based authentication.
• Assist in integrating frontend or mobile application requirements with backend APIs.
• Gain guided exposure to Redis and Celery for caching and asynchronous/background task processing.
• Assist with payment-related backend workflows, including Razorpay integration concepts, transaction status handling, and webhook testing.
• Work with file and media storage workflows using AWS S3 or Cloudinary.
• Test APIs using Postman or similar tools; identify bugs, validate edge cases, and help write automated tests using pytest.
• Use Git and GitHub for version control; participate in code reviews and implement feedback.
• Learn the basics of Docker, environment configuration, deployment, and CI/CD workflows.
• Maintain clear task updates and technical documentation, and follow secure coding, data privacy, and access-control practices.

Eligibility & Skills

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree, diploma, or relevant course in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or a related discipline. Candidates with equivalent practical skills may also apply.
• Basic knowledge of Python and programming fundamentals is expected.
• Understanding of HTTP, REST API concepts, JSON, and basic SQL is preferred.
• Familiarity with Django/DRF, PostgreSQL, Git, or Postman is an advantage.
• Ability to debug logically, research solutions, understand feedback, and work through assigned tasks responsibly.
• Good written communication, time management, and coordination skills for remote collaboration.
• A laptop/desktop and a stable internet connection are required.

Internship Structure & Learning Outcomes

• Duration: Strictly 3 months.
• Work Mode: Fully remote.
• Internship Category: Learning-based, unpaid internship.
• The internship is intended to provide guided practical learning through assigned tasks, code walkthroughs, API development exercises, testing, documentation, and feedback.
• By the end of the internship, the intern should have developed a clearer understanding of Django-based backend development, REST API workflows, relational databases, version control, testing, and collaborative software delivery.

• This is a strictly three-month unpaid learning internship. No stipend, salary, or other monetary compensation will be provided.
