About the Role
HDR is looking for an Entry Level Construction Inspector to join our South Carolina Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) team. This role involves performing construction engineering and inspection duties on highway and bridge construction projects, adhering to SCDOT policies and procedures. Work will encompass materials testing, construction observation, and reporting. You will be trained to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identify discrepancies or conflicts, and enforce contract documents. Night and/or weekend work may be required based on client project needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform construction engineering and inspection duties on highway and bridge construction projects.
- Utilize SCDOT policies and procedures.
- Conduct materials testing.
- Perform construction observation.
- Generate reports.
- Be trained to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Identify discrepancies or conflicts within construction documents.
- Enforce contract documents.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections.
- Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law.

- This position typically requires successfully passing drug-screening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing.
Preferred Qualifications
- SCDOT experience.
- Tech school degree.
- Local candidates are preferred.
