Web Developer Internship (Unpaid)

About the Role

This is a hands-on learning journey for individuals who want to understand how technology works at a deeper level, contributing to the development of web applications, internal platforms, software systems, and experimental technology solutions primarily using PHP, SQL, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. The internship focuses on exploring system architecture, application functionality, security-oriented programming, networking fundamentals, and advanced problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

• Web Application Development: Design, develop, and maintain websites, web applications, internal tools, and software systems using PHP and related technologies.
• Technology Development & Innovation: Research, conceptualise, prototype, and experiment with new functionalities, technical approaches, and system capabilities, including ideas that may not have existing off-the-shelf solutions.
• System Design & Architecture: Understand application architecture, database structures, software components, integrations, and the relationships between different parts of a technology system.
• PHP & Backend Engineering: Write structured, reusable, maintainable, and efficient PHP code, applying object-oriented programming principles and appropriate software design practices.
• Frontend Development: Build responsive interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and translate design concepts or Figma prototypes into functional web interfaces.
• Database Engineering: Work with SQL databases, data modelling, queries, relationships, and database optimisation.
• Security-Oriented Programming: Learn and implement secure coding practices, authentication, authorisation, input validation, session management, access controls, and protection against common web application vulnerabilities.
• Networking Fundamentals: Develop an understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, APIs, client-server communication, ports, request-response cycles, and how web applications communicate across networks.
• Research & Deep Analysis: Investigate technical challenges, compare possible solutions, evaluate functionality, identify limitations, and recommend improvements based on technical feasibility, performance, security, and usability.
• Testing & Debugging: Identify bugs, analyse root causes, test functionality, improve reliability, and document technical findings.
• Deployment & Maintenance: Learn how applications are configured, deployed, monitored, maintained, and improved in suitable development and production environments.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with other team members to understand requirements, solve technical problems, develop prototypes, and deliver practical solutions.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Currently pursuing or graduated from a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Knowledge of at least one programming language; PHP or JavaScript is preferred.
• Basic understanding of programming logic, data structures, or object-oriented programming is an advantage.
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, or SQL is desirable.
• An analytical mindset and the ability to break complex problems into smaller, manageable tasks.
• Curiosity about how software, operating systems, networks, and security mechanisms work.
• Willingness to research unfamiliar concepts, experiment with ideas, learn independently, and accept constructive feedback.
• Ability to communicate technical findings clearly and work both independently and collaboratively.
• A laptop or desktop computer and a stable internet connection.
• At least one relevant project link must be included in your resume. GitHub repositories, live projects, portfolios, or other demonstrable work are preferred. PHP and SQL projects are a strong advantage.

Working Hours

Choose one of the following shifts, subject to availability and team requirements:

• Morning: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Evening: 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM
• Night: 6:00 PM – 12:00 AM

The selected shift will be agreed upon at the beginning of the internship.

Internship Duration

Three months, with the possibility of extension depending on project requirements, performance, and mutual agreement.

• Project assignments and opportunities to work on experimental functionality will depend on business needs, technical feasibility, and the intern's progress.
