About the Role

This role is not a ticket-in, pull-request-out job. The engineer will take a piece of work all the way: understand the customer's problem, find the root cause, build the fix, prove it works, ship it, and confirm it is fixed in production. The engineer is expected to investigate before coding, test their own work on QA, record a short Loom walkthrough for product acceptance, and stay with the change through staging and deploy until the customer's issue is closed.

End-to-End Process

  • Understand the problem: Read support escalations, reproduce on QA, trace root cause in code and production data. Clearly state if it is a product defect, data gap, or working as designed, with evidence.
  • Build the fix: Using Java (Spring Boot) or Ruby on Rails, with tests. Include React changes if needed.
  • Get it reviewed: Open pull requests, answer review comments, keep CI green.
  • Test yourself on QA: Cover golden paths and edge cases from the ticket. Include screenshots and resulting database states on the ticket.
  • Record a Loom for acceptance: Demonstrate before and after in under five minutes. Product accepts from the recording.
  • Ship and close the loop: Take changes through staging to production, monitor the deploy, verify in production, and update the support ticket.

What You Will Work On

  • Customer escalations and product features across:
  • Accounts payable and bill pay
  • Month-end close
  • AI transaction categorization
  • Financial reporting and ledger migration
  • This may involve two-line fixes with extensive investigation or new features from product specs.

Requirements

  • 0 to 3 years of software engineering experience, or an exceptional new graduate with shipped projects.
  • Experience with Java and Ruby on Rails. Strong in at least one, with clear evidence of ability to quickly learn the other. You will work in both.
  • SQL proficiency for proving points and reading production data to confirm or reject theories before coding.
  • A mindset focused on root cause analysis before fixing. Uncomfortable patching symptoms.
  • Clear written communication skills for tickets, pull request descriptions, and Loom narration. Your work should be easily understood without a call.
  • Genuine appetite for AI tooling. Experience using tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot seriously, with a desire to improve proficiency.
  • Demonstrated intent and ownership. Desire to be a dependable part of delivery and to show up when needed.

Nice to Have

  • React and TypeScript experience in a production codebase.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, CI pipelines, or managing a deployment.
  • Basic accounting literacy (chart of accounts, journal entries, bank reconciliation).
