About the Role
Northwestern University - The Feinberg School of Medicine is hiring a Research Data Scientist for Cardiovascular AI to join the Implementation Intelligence Lab. The role focuses on building AI that integrates into clinical care.
Key Responsibilities
- Building and validating predictive and generative models on multimodal, longitudinal clinical data.
- Developing LLM-based systems, including RAG, structured information extraction, evaluation harnesses, and agentic workflows, running on local GPUs and in the cloud.
- Working with Northwestern Medicine to embed models into clinical workflows.
- Helping build infrastructure that makes clinical research reproducible at scale.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Strong Python and SQL skills.
- Proficiency with the PyTorch / scikit-learn stack.
- Strong facility with modern agentic coding tools.
- Software engineering skills to generate quality code.
- Hands-on experience building applications and tools on top of LLMs.
- Experience with model evaluation that goes beyond AUC, including calibration, subgroup performance, temporal validation, and dataset shift.
- Familiarity with EHR data and OMOP/FHIR/i2b2, or a clear ability to learn them quickly.
Qualifications
- Curiosity, kindness, and the ability to explain technical work to clinicians.
- Clinical NLP, imaging/ECG, or weak supervision experience is a big plus.
