Data Scientist I

About the Role

Wayfair is seeking Data Scientists with 0-3 years of work experience to join their team. This role is based in Boston, MA, with a hybrid work model requiring 4 days in the office (Monday-Thursday) and 1 day remote (Friday). Wayfair is committed to supporting talent early in their careers and hires candidates on a rolling basis due to a high volume of openings.

Key Responsibilities

• Build scalable analytics products in SQL, Python, and G-Suite visualization platforms (e.g., LookerStudio, Looker) to track performance and create forward-looking models.
• Develop automated infrastructure in Google Cloud Composer for data loading, transformation, model execution, and dashboard updates.
• Perform statistical analysis on large datasets to derive performance insights and project business outcomes.
• Enhance demand forecasting models to incorporate new business strategies.
• Create segment-level performance projections to provide a comprehensive view of company-wide trajectory.
• Establish scalable data structures for monitoring CG inventory performance across key KPIs.
• Communicate findings to colleagues with backgrounds in computer science, operations research, and business.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• BS in a quantitative field (Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Economics) with a strong academic record.
• Highly analytical with the ability to structure complex and ambiguous data/modeling problems.
• Exceptional analytics skillset with high comfort and expertise in Python and relational databases (SQL).
• Proven track record of developing insights from data that lead to action.
• Experience operating with large datasets to identify trends, analyze details, make recommendations, and deliver outcomes.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage and prioritize projects effectively.
• Innovative problem-solving skills with the ability to develop ideas independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Passion for tackling complex supply-chain business problems, from definition to implementation.
• Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by Wayfair, now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to design, build, and own data pipelines end-to-end, ensuring data accuracy, scalability, and reliability.
• Demonstrated curiosity and interest in Artificial Intelligence and its applications.

Possible Team Placements

Roles may be within Wayfair's Technology organization (e.g., customer-facing storefronts, fintech, loyalty products) or Commercial & Operations organization (e.g., supply chain, forecasting, network planning, operations analytics).
