Associate Attorney

About the Role

Brody & Shemwell, APC is an AV-rated law firm seeking a junior associate attorney with 0–2 years of experience to join their litigation practice in Downtown San Diego. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on litigation experience and work directly with experienced partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents
• Conduct legal research and prepare substantive legal analysis
• Draft and respond to written discovery
• Assist with depositions, hearings, mediation, and trial preparation
• Attend court appearances
• Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and other case participants
• Work directly with partners in developing litigation strategy
• Handle business litigation, bankruptcy, and creditors’ rights matters

Requirements & Tech Stack

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Active member of the State Bar of California
• Strong legal research and writing skills
• Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and analytical ability
• Ability to manage assignments independently while working collaboratively with the firm's attorneys

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of experience; civil litigation experience is preferred but not required
• Bankruptcy or creditors’ rights experience is a plus, but not required
• California State Bar License (Required)
