Interior Design Intern (Field+Site Visit Job)

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic, and hands-on Interior Designing Intern passionate about residential interior design and eager to gain practical experience in executing complete interior projects. This role involves working on real-world residential projects, including bare-shell apartments, unfurnished apartments, and independent houses. It is not a desk-based designing role; we seek someone interested in designing, civil construction, materials, vendor/contractor coordination, and on-site project execution.

Key Responsibilities & Skills

Interior Design & Visualization

• Excellent knowledge of multiple interior design styles, themes, concepts, and colour combinations.
• Ability to create unique, functional, and aesthetically appealing interior designs.
• Expertise in 2D layouts, detailed working drawings, and 3D photorealistic renders.
• Create complete home interior designs for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, wardrobes, balconies, dining areas, and utility spaces.
• Prepare furniture layouts, false ceiling layouts, lighting layouts, electrical layouts, plumbing layouts, and other execution drawings.
• Design concepts for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, wardrobes, balconies, dining areas, and utility spaces.
• Explore and implement AI tools for interior design, visualization, and creative concepts.

Civil Works & Technical Knowledge

• Complete civil works from bare-shell to finished apartments.
• Electrical wiring, switchboards, lighting points, and installations.
• Plumbing, bathroom fittings, and kitchen plumbing.
• Flooring, tiles, wall finishes, painting, and waterproofing.
• False ceilings, partitions, carpentry, and masonry.
• Modular kitchens, wardrobes, storage units, and custom furniture.
• Bathroom construction, fittings, and finishing.
• Doors, windows, hardware, and other interior finishing works.

BOQ, Costing & Budgeting

• Prepare BOQs (Bill of Quantities).
• Understand different interior materials, specifications, and applications.
• Visit and learn material pricing, labour charges, and market rates in Chennai.
• Prepare project estimates, costing sheets, and budget breakdowns.
• Compare material quotations from different vendors.
• Assist in identifying cost-effective materials and solutions.

Site Visits, Vendor & Contractor Coordination

• Must be comfortable travelling to residential project sites across Chennai.
• Conduct regular site visits and document project progress.
• Coordinate with civil contractors, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters, and other vendors.
• Visit sites to monitor ongoing civil and interior works.
• Execute the translation of 2D/3D designs into actual site execution.
• Take site measurements and prepare site reports.
• Coordinate material procurement and delivery.
• Identify execution issues and communicate them to the project team.
• Ensure work quality and project timelines.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a Civil-related field.
• AutoCAD, SketchUp, 3ds Max, V-Ray, Lumion or equivalent software.
• Familiarity with AI-powered interior design and visualization tools is an added advantage.
• Experience with residential layouts, furniture planning, and space utilization.
• Basic knowledge of civil construction, electrical, plumbing, and finishing works.
• Two-wheeler and valid driving licence, or comfort arranging transportation for site visits.

Qualifications

• Creative thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication and coordination skills.
• Willingness to learn, take responsibility, and work independently.
• Proactive and comfortable with frequent field visits and site supervision.
• Freshers with good design knowledge and practical skills are welcome.

Position Details

• Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu

• Stipend: Starting ₹10,000 per month, based on skills, experience, and expertise.
