About the Role
Idaho Power is seeking Civil Engineering Interns for their summer 2027 internship program. The role involves assisting engineering staff and gaining valuable skills and experience under supervision. Interns may interface with internal departments and external organizations, receiving guidance from leaders and other engineers.
Civil Engineering Opportunity: Transmission Line Design Optimization
This internship focuses on designing a new or rebuilt section of transmission line. The intern will be provided with a route, survey, voltage, environmental limitations, and end points to engineer the most efficient, economical, and environmentally responsible design. This includes selecting pole heights, span lengths, structure types, pole locations, considering constructability, and determining conductor tensions and sags. The intern will review their design periodically with transmission design engineers through a QA/QC program. The role also involves identifying and performing improvements to existing design processes and standards, such as line tensions, load cases, structure families, and assemblies, and supporting the transmission group on additional engineering requests.
