Junior MERN Stack Developer

About the Role

Creuto is seeking a Junior MERN Stack Developer to contribute to building production-grade web applications using MongoDB, Express.js, React, and Node.js. This role offers mentorship from senior engineers to develop depth across the full JavaScript stack. Ideal candidates possess foundational knowledge of the MERN stack, a strong desire for growth, and the discipline to write clean, reliable code.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain frontend features using React, including reusable components, forms, and API-connected views.
• Write backend routes and controllers using Node.js and Express.js under senior engineer guidance.
• Work with MongoDB to read and write data, understanding basic schema design patterns.
• Integrate frontend components with REST APIs and debug across the full stack.
• Fix bugs and contribute to improving overall product quality and stability.
• Write clean, readable JavaScript and TypeScript code that adheres to team standards and passes code review.
• Participate in code reviews and use feedback constructively.
• Learn and apply state management basics using Redux or Context API in real product features.
• Participate in sprint ceremonies (standups, planning, retrospectives).
• Ask questions, document learning, and grow skills consistently.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Experience with the MERN stack through personal projects, internships, or early professional work (0-2 years).
• Have built at least one full stack project using React and Node.js.
• Comfortable with JavaScript (ES6+).
• Basic understanding of TypeScript or eagerness to learn it.
• Understand how REST APIs work and have connected a frontend to a backend API.
• Fast learner who takes initiative.
• Comfortable with Git for version control, including basic branching and pull request workflows.
• Care about shipping quality code.

Bonus Skills

• Familiarity with Next.js or server-side rendering concepts.
• Basic knowledge of cloud deployments on AWS, GCP, or similar platforms.
• Exposure to Docker or containerised development environments.
• A GitHub profile with MERN stack projects or open-source contributions.
• Knowledge of basic database indexing and query optimization in MongoDB.
