About the Role

Xylem is a Fortune 500 global water solutions company seeking an Application Engineer to advance sustainable impact and empower those who make water work. As a leading water technology company, Xylem addresses critical water challenges worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn and apply fundamentals of applications engineering by supporting basic system/pump station design activities, preparing simple schematics/layouts, and performing hydraulic calculations using standard tools under close guidance.
  • Assist in tender and enquiry reviews by reading specifications and drawings, compiling checklists, identifying gaps/deviations for escalation, and maintaining clear documentation of assumptions and inputs.
  • Support equipment/material selection by using standard selection guidelines and catalogs, preparing initial technical submissions (datasheets, compliance statements, deviation list) for review by senior engineers, and ensuring correct configuration against customer duty points.
  • Contribute to project costing and proposal preparation by gathering required inputs, using approved templates/tools to draft technical and commercial offer documents, and following DOA and internal approval workflows before release.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, service, and operations teams to collect information, coordinate responses to technical clarifications, and support development of the customer solution.
  • Provide timely and professional responses to routine enquiries by logging and updating all activities in CRM/Salesforce, maintaining data accuracy, and escalating complex items promptly.
  • Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders within all of Xylem’s commercial teams.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Working knowledge of pump basics—hydraulic fundamentals, mechanical principles, and typical pump construction—supported by academic background in mechanical engineering and willingness to learn through on-the-job training.
  • Basic awareness of international standards/codes and compliance requirements relevant to pumps and engineered equipment, with the ability to follow internal checklists and escalate questions.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/enquiries, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, showing ownership and initiative appropriate for a trainee role.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and preparation of proposal/submittal documents using standard templates.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Positive, solution-focused attitude with a strong willingness to learn, adapt quickly, and find practical ways to achieve results while following defined processes and guidelines.
  • Exposure to pump/system concepts, including pump station layouts, schematic diagrams, and simple hydraulic calculations (academic projects/internships are sufficient).
  • Basic familiarity or readiness to learn CRM tools such as Salesforce (data updates, activity logging, and enquiry tracking).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related engineering discipline) from a recognized university.
  • 0 to 4 years related experience with rotating equipment preferred.
  • Any internship, academic project, or training involving rotating equipment/pumps is an advantage.
