About the Role
JanAI is building a voice-first, multilingual AI platform for India, enabling access to essential services for rural and Tier 3/4 communities. This is a full-time, hybrid AI Engineering Internship with flexibility for partial work from home, lasting 3–6 months, with potential for a full-time offer.
Key Responsibilities
- Voice AI: Build speech-to-text, LLM, and text-to-speech pipelines for Indian languages and dialects, optimized for noisy environments.
- AI Agents: Develop agents capable of reasoning, tool usage, API calls, and task completion for users.
- Knowledge & Retrieval: Construct RAG, search, and knowledge systems for accurate, contextual answers.
- AI Evaluation: Create systems to measure accuracy, latency, hallucinations, and conversation quality.
- Backend & Distributed Systems: Build reliable services incorporating queues, caching, async processing, and observability, designed for millions of users on unreliable networks.
- Integrations & Platform: Connect AI functionalities with real-world services and Indian digital infrastructure like UPI, Aadhaar, and DigiLocker.
- Collaborate closely with principal engineers and product leads, participate in code reviews, and contribute to decision-making.

Requirements & Tech Stack
- Working knowledge of data structures, APIs, and databases.
- Comfort in at least one programming language such as Python or JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Experience building and deploying projects for public use.
- Ability to learn quickly, problem-solve independently, and clearly articulate technical solutions.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Bonus: Experience with LLMs, AI tools, or ML projects.
- Bonus: Proficiency in an Indian language besides English.
