About the Role
Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company. The Weather and Degraded Roads Perception team builds features for the Waymo Driver to operate safely and comfortably in various conditions like rain, fog, snow, ice, potholes, unpaved roads, trenches, and construction sites. This role involves designing new perception features, developing and retraining ML models, and building hybrid onboard/offboard systems. Collaboration with the planner and control teams, as well as working with Vision Language Models (VLMs) for long-tail situations, are key aspects. This is a hybrid onsite internship position.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and implement novel ML perception solutions for Waymo’s self-driving stack.
- Develop applied research solutions for data-scarce challenges in Waymo’s weather domain.
- Engage in cross-functional discussions and development with the Waymo onboard SW team.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Experience with machine learning applications, including transformer applications and ML evaluation techniques.
- Experience reading and implementing ML algorithms from academic papers.
- Familiarity with Tensorflow, Pytorch, or JAX.
Qualifications
- MS or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Classical computer vision or computational geometry experience.
- Experience in real-time robotic systems.
- Experience in C++ programming.
- Submissions in relevant conferences such as ICML, RSS, IROS, CORL, CVPR.
