About Apulza
Apulza is an early-stage, student-founded startup building an AI-powered support platform for college students. The platform is designed to reduce overwhelm, support time management, and avoid shaming users for falling behind, particularly for students with ADHD, anxiety, depression, or other conditions. Counselors also use Apulza to stay connected with the students they support.
What You'll Work On
Work is organized in weekly sprints. You will:
- Take on tasks each sprint from start to merged pull request, with team support.
- As you become comfortable, you can own entire features and pitch ideas for product improvement.
- Build and polish features in the React / Next.js web app (TypeScript, Tailwind).
- Work on the React Native (Expo) mobile app.
- Connect the frontend to the FastAPI (Python) backend and PostgreSQL database, with occasional backend work.
- Write tests for changes using Vitest and Playwright (frontend), and pytest (backend).
- Fix bugs, improve accessibility, and enhance product speed and ease of use.
- Respond to code reviews on pull requests.
What We're Looking For
- Experience with React (class projects and personal projects count).
- Comfort with JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Basic Git and GitHub skills (branches, pull requests).
- Willingness to ask questions and comfort sharing your own ideas.
- Interest in accessible, people-centered software.
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Next.js, React Native, or Tailwind.
- Python or any backend experience.
- Docker (used for local development setup).
- Experience working in agile sprints.
- Personal interest in mental health, neurodiversity, or education.
What You'll Gain
- Real, shipped work for your portfolio and résumé, including features you designed.
- Experience with a professional workflow: sprints, pull requests, code review, and automated tests.
- Mentorship from the founding team.
- Academic credit, if your school offers it.
