Medical Assistant, Internal Medicine Clinic

About the Role

As a Medical Assistant in an Internal Medicine Clinic at Henry Ford Health, you will work alongside providers and the nursing team to deliver quality, compassionate care. You will be responsible for greeting patients, preparing them for care, and managing clinic operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome patients and prepare them for their visit.
• Take and record vital signs in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
• Gather patient medical history.
• Prepare for exams, procedures, and treatments according to established protocols.
• Administer medications and immunizations as directed by the provider, adhering to the six rights of medication administration.
• Document all patient care activities in the EHR.
• Respond to patient requests via phone calls, In Basket messages, and My Chart.
• Enter medication, radiology, and lab orders into the EHR for provider review.
• Provide clear after-visit instructions to patients.
• Prepare medication refill requests for provider review and signature in the EHR.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
• Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to ambulatory patient care.
• Ability to problem-solve.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum).

OR

• Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years.

OR

• Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of one year of experience in clinical medical assisting.

OR

• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

OR

• Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one year clinical experience in a clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.

OR

• Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in a clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.
• Successfully complete all components of Ambulatory orientation as defined by Henry Ford Health.

Certifications/Licensures

• Current BLS-C upon hire or successful completion by end of orientation.
