About the Role
Anduril Maritime builds autonomous underwater/surface vehicles. We are seeking a Mission Software Engineer to debug and fix issues in our existing codebase. This role focuses on addressing real-world bugs encountered by field vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Take field-reported anomalies and determine the affected subsystem.
- Reproduce issues using recorded sensor/mission data and visualization tools.
- Utilize existing metrics and log infrastructure to reconstruct system state at the time of failure.
- Confirm fixes in simulated and hardware-in-the-loop environments before deploying to vehicles.
- Write fixes in Rust, C++, Python, or Go, including tests and CI integration.
- Identify whether issues stem from bugs, bad configurations, or deployment mismatches and fix them at the correct layer.
- Document root causes and fixes for each issue.
- Contribute to building on-call and triage runbooks.
- Provide feedback to owning teams if subsystem changes are required for a fix.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Real experience debugging unfamiliar code under time pressure with incomplete information.
- Proficiency in reading and fixing bugs in at least two of: Rust, modern C++, Python, Go.
- Systems-debugging instincts: ability to pull logs and metrics, reconstruct events, and reproduce issues offline.
- Experience with observability tooling, such as Prometheus/Grafana (metrics) and Loki/ELK (logs).
- Linux and systems fluency.
- Ability to clearly articulate findings without excessive detail or ambiguity.
- Willingness to work with hardware and sensors.
- Willingness to travel 25%+ of the time.
Nice to Have
- Robotics middleware, sensor drivers, or real-time data pipeline experience.
- Experience with simulation-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop test setups.
- CI/CD and versioned deployment experience for embedded or fleet software.
- On-call or field support experience for shipped hardware.
Qualifications
- Bonus: Familiarity with declarative/immutable OS setups (e.g., NixOS).
Compensation
- US Salary Range: $166,000—$220,000 USD
- Highly competitive equity grants.
- Top-tier benefits package.
