About the Role
PriVii Care is an early-stage healthcare startup focused on bringing together relevant patient information to help providers make informed decisions, strengthen patient relationships, and deliver more connected care. We are seeking a Part-Time Software Engineer Fellow (Frontend, Mobile & Full-Stack) to join our team. You will report to the CTO and collaborate with backend, data, AI, and quality engineers. The role is frontend-first, with opportunities for candidates with mobile or full-stack experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain application code in TypeScript and React for the patient experience, provider portal, and public-facing website.
- Build and maintain the patient mobile app for iOS and Android using React Native or a similar cross-platform framework, including offline logging and push notifications.
- Translate product and clinical specifications into interfaces that handle various states (loading, empty, partial, error, offline).
- Develop and maintain PriVii's design system, including tokens, component library, responsive layouts, and accessibility foundations.
- Integrate frontend applications with backend services, covering authentication, session handling, data fetching, and error reporting.
- For full-stack candidates: Build and maintain backend APIs and data models, including permissions and audit logging.
- Build interfaces for symptom and medication tracking, health dashboards, connected data sources, document uploads, notifications, and privacy/consent flows.
- Implement interfaces that accurately represent data provenance for clinicians.
- Develop modular components with unit and integration testing, and utilize Git-based collaborative development workflows.
- Debug and troubleshoot issues across application, network, browser, and API boundaries.
- Support deployment processes, environment configuration, and monitoring.
- Document technical decisions, component usage, and deployment procedures.
- Participate in code reviews, raise technical concerns, and contribute to engineering decisions.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong programming skills in TypeScript and React.
- Strong understanding of frontend fundamentals: component architecture, state management, rendering behavior, browser APIs, and debugging.
- Experience building interfaces that consume HTTP APIs, including handling failure, latency, and partial data.
- Experience using Git-based collaborative development workflows, including pull requests and code review.
- Demonstrated attention to interface user behavior, including keyboard navigation, focus management, and screen reader output.
- Ability to communicate progress and risks early, and work independently.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Experience with React Native or Expo, including app store publishing.
- Experience building backend services in Node.js or similar, and working with relational databases like PostgreSQL.
- Experience with Next.js, including the App Router, server/client component boundaries, and production deployment.
- Experience building or maintaining a design system, component library, or design-token architecture.
- Practical accessibility experience, including WCAG conformance, assistive technology testing, or remediation.
- Experience with frontend testing frameworks like Vitest, Jest, Testing Library, or Playwright.
- Experience with utility-first styling systems such as Tailwind CSS.
- Experience with deployment and infrastructure concepts (e.g., containerized builds, environment configuration, CDN).
- Experience building interfaces for healthcare, finance, or other domains where information accuracy is critical.
- Experience with mobile-first and responsive design.
- Familiarity with frontend performance optimization.
- Experience working from written specifications and contributing to technical documentation.
Commitment and Compensation
- Part-time, unpaid fellowship.
- Includes an equity component.
- Does not include salary or wages.
- Course credit may be available, subject to institutional approval.
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Candidates must be able to begin immediately.
