About the Role
We are seeking an Associate to join our M&A Capital Markets (“MACM”) team. In this role, you will help senior bankers advise clients on unique and complex merger-related matters, develop differentiated capital markets insights, and support the execution of strategic transactions across sectors, market capitalizations, and geographies. You will work closely with senior bankers and cross-functional teams to analyze transaction structures, investor sentiment, valuation impacts, and event-driven trading dynamics, while contributing to high-profile client assignments and live M&A situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Help senior bankers across Investment Banking advise clients on a diverse range of merger-related matters.
- Architect and negotiate structured deal solutions, including M&A collars and cash-and-stock elections, on behalf of clients in live M&A transactions.
- Leverage data to develop differentiated insights into the merger and equity markets for use in marketing and advisory assignments.
- Perform and present analyses of trading patterns related to activism, mergers, and other corporate events, including M&A buyer reactions, merger arbitrage, index fund trading, and activist accumulation.
- Interpret investor sentiment around transactions by synthesizing investor feedback, trading desk color, market data, sell-side research, and third-party commentary.
- Analyze the financial and capital markets implications of novel transaction structures.
- Provide real-time judgment and insight into trading dynamics in leaked, hostile, or contested M&A situations.
- Assess the impact of acquisitions and separations on pre- and post-closing client valuations and equity stories.
- Oversee, quality-control, and enhance the group’s proprietary datasets.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to interact with clients and senior internal leaders.
- Ability to synthesize data into concise, client-ready slides, memos, and talking points.
- Demonstrated interest in equity markets, investor behavior, corporate finance, and the broader macroeconomic environment.
- Effective project management skills and the ability to prioritize competing projects and deadlines.
- Strong familiarity with company valuation concepts, including comparable company analysis, discounted cash flow analysis, leveraged buyout analysis, and merger math.
- Exceptional quantitative and technical skills, ideally with experience in statistics or data science.
- Strong team orientation and the ability to thrive in a small, collaborative environment with significant exposure to senior bankers across the firm.
Salary Range: $150,000 - $225,000 base salary. May be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
